Highway 99 Bridge east of Wapello closed for rebuilding
The bridge heading east out of Wapello will be closed for the next year due to reconstruction. Louisa County Assistant Engineer Adam Shutt says they will be tearing down the bridge to its foundation and rebuilding it. Shutt explains the need for this overhaul, “The old [bridge] has been up since the 50’s I believe, and it’s got a lot problems so the bridge just needed to be replaced.” The project is scheduled to have the road shut down for 14 months. County Road H22 to US 61 and County Road X61 to County Road G56 then to US 61 will be the closest alternate routes.
